Cathy Quinn ONZM
Cathy Quinn is a Director of a range of listed and unlisted entities.
Cathy brings 35 years of legal and commercial experience to her roles. Prior to retiring from MinterEllisonRuddWatts in December 2019, Cathy was one of New Zealand’ s leading corporate lawyers specialising in mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, securities law and providing governance advise to a range of boards. Cathy lead MinterEllisonRuddWatts as chair for 8 years during a period of positive transformation and change.
Cathy has long been passionate about raising corporate governance standards in New Zealand. Cathy wrote a White Paper on corporate governance in 2003. The paper was commended by the Minister of Commerce at the time. Subsequently the Securities Commission (now the Financial Markets Authority) developed and issued its guidelines on Principles and Guidelines for Corporate Governance in New Zealand. Cathy also initiated an annual corporate governance symposium for the director community which has run for nearly 17 years and is widely regarded as one of the best education events for the New Zealand director community.
Cathy believes in the power of collective decision making of Boards that welcomes diverse thinking, draws on different skills sets and encourages intelligent inquiry.
Cathy was awarded the Verve Clicquot Business Women Award for New Zealand in 2010.
Cathy was made an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2016 for services to the law and women.
